Fun watching things grow

     I took these photos on Saturday, the first of June - the tulips are still in bloom and the hosta are growing fast!! 
     We have a cluster of six ornamental trees and shrubs adjacent to the house - they were planted by Mom and Dad near 20 years ago.  Below are photo of three of them in bloom.
      There's a lilac to the left, a tall cherry tree behind and I'm not sure what the shorter shrub is in the foreground.
 Here's a closer look at the blooms.
There's also a honeysuckle which will bloom in a few weeks.

Spring Gardening

     We've been enjoying the tulips we planted last fall - here's a few photos - the hosta are growing quickly and taking over.
     These tulips come from Vanco Farms here on Prince Edward Island www.vancofarms.com

New Tables by Kerras Jeffery

     We've been working on getting the house ready for rental starting July 1st.  Our brother Kerras made us two tables - a 36"x78" harvest table for the Dining area and a 36"x30" Island-style table for the Kitchen.  See below.
     Kerras has a business up the road a half-mile (.7km) called Backroad Folkart.  He's a folk artist, woodworker and antique collector - check out his blog www.backroadfolkart.blogspot.com

Getting the Garden Ready

     Last Saturday we put up a new fence around the garden and tilled it up for Dad to plant his first potatoes, which he did yesterday.

The Jeffery Family of Alma wins West Prince Graphic's "Favorite Family Photo Contest"

     In the Wednesday, Feb. 13th, 2013 issue of the West Prince Graphic it was announce that our family won the "Favourite Family Photo Contest" - the first annual contest in honour of Family Day on P.E.I.   The photo submitted was taken in July 2009 at Thunder Cove, Malpeque Bay, Prince Edward Island.

           The winning photo was taken in the summer of 2009 at Thunder Cove.  It was 36 years earlier, in 1973 that Wilbert and Verna had their first family photo taken when their youngest was a year old – also taken by Heckberts.  "It was alot of money at the time, but potatoes were a good price that spring and we really wanted a family photo." said Wilbert, "it’s priceless today."
          Wilbert was born in Lauretta, son of Louis and Annie Jane (Cannon) Jeffery and Verna was born in Knutsford, daughter of Roy and Empress (MacNevin) McDowell.  Wilbert and Verna were married in 1961 and raised their seven children on their farm in Alma.  All their children live on Prince Edward Island: four in West Prince; two in the Summerside area and one in Hunter River.  Wilbert and Verna have 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
