The Garden is near done

Here's a few photos from around the yard and the garden with the lovely sunflowers.
The garden was great this year!  The potatoes grew fast - the beans, cucumber, tomatoes and strawberry's were plentiful.  Lots of pickling this Fall - mustard pickles; green tomato chow chow; tomatoe relish; bread & butter pickles, etc.
In mid summer we planted these Giant Sunflower - they grew fast!!!
Below:  we planted 5 blue spruce last summer.
Below: we also planted a row of spruce trees.
The Barns and Garage look good!
The house from a different view - the sky sure looks like Fall!

Painting the Barn

We painted the barn last weekend - completing our summer project to repair, replace and paint the south side of the old barn.  Nice to have the barn complete!!
Those helping:  Carter, Kerras, Shirley, Diane, Kenny, Jody, Darcie and Mom cooking supper :-D)  Oh yes, Ted stopped in to help too.
The large false door looks great!!!  Many asked why we put back in the large door  - its false - applied to the barn wall.

Summer 2012

The homestead looks great this summer even though we've had very little rain - check out the recent photos below.
The Petunia's have been well cared - lots of dead-heading and watering!!!
Below: we used the old cream separator in the early 1960's to separate the cream from the milk on the farm - today it makes a great flower pot!
We'll be painting the barn as soon as the weather cools a bit.

Picnics at the Homestead

In on August 8th, 2009 we hosted a church-style picnic at the Jeffery Homestead as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Anglican Parish of Alberton-O'Leary.  Here's some photos from that event where we had about 75 people in attendance.
Below: we had an old-fashioned Cake Auction.
We were sponsored in part by King Cole Tea from Barbor Foods in Sussex, NB.
